Pumpsie Green

Elijah Jerry "Pumpsie" Green was an American professional baseball player. He was the first Black player to play for the Boston Red Sox, the last Major League Baseball team to integrate. Green played for the Red Sox from 1959 to 1962.

Pumpsie Green was born on October 27, 1933.

Pumpsie Green played as an infielder, mainly as a second baseman and shortstop.

Aside from playing for the Boston Red Sox, Pumpsie Green also played for the New York Mets in 1963 and the Washington Senators in 1964.

Pumpsie Green holds the accomplishment of being the first Black player to play for the Boston Red Sox. He also played a crucial role in integrating the last team in Major League Baseball. Green contributed to breaking the color barrier in professional baseball.
