Biography

Pravarasena II (r. c. 400 – c. 415 CE) was a king of the Vakataka dynasty of India. He was the son of Rudrasena II and Prabhavatigupta, the daughter of the Gupta emperor, Chandragupta II. His father's early death led to Prabhavatigupta ruling as regent for an extended period of time as their sons Divakarasena, Damodarasena, and Pravarasena II were all minors. Divakarasena, the crown prince, died before ascending the throne and it was Damodarasena and his brother, Pravarasena, who became Vakataka kings instead. Pravarasena's death was probably followed by a succession struggle from which Narendrasena emerged as the victor.
A majority of the known Vakataka inscriptions belong to the era of Pravarasena. A work in Prakrit named Setubandha or Ravanavaho is also attributed to him.
