Biography

Monsignor Pierre Mamie (4 March 1920 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, La Chaux-de-Fonds District, Neuchâtel, Switzerland – 14 March 2008 Villars-sur-Glâne, Sarine, Fribourg, Switzerland) was the Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Lausanne, Geneva and Fribourg from 1970 to 1995.

Mamie was educated at the Collège Saint-Michel in Fribourg, and was ordained as a priest in 1946.

Mamie accompanied Swiss Cardinal Charles Journet to the Second Vatican Council in 1965.

In May 1977, Mamie warned Marcel Lefebvre that saying a Mass in the Tridentine Rite could be a break with orthodox Catholicism.
