Biography

Phillis Meti (born 11 July 1987) is a professional golfer from Auckland, New Zealand. Although born in New Zealand, Meti is of Cook Islands Maori descent. Her home golf club is Akarana, located in the Auckland city CBD.

From 2002 to 2004, Meti was a junior representative for her province, North Shore. Meti then began to compete in long drive competitions: in 2006, she won the Womens World Long Drive Championships with a drive of 326 yards, becoming the youngest winner of the competition at 19 years and 3 months of age. In the 2007 and 2008 competitions she was runner-up. In 2009 Meti turned professional and moved to Australia to compete in the Australian Ladies Professional Golf tour.

In 2016 Meti won the Womens World Long Drive Championship for a second time. In 2017, she broke the world record for the longest drive by a woman golfer, hitting a drive of 406 yards while competing at the World Championships.

Meti has also represented New Zealand in athletics; in 2004, she competed in discus and shot put at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Bendigo, Australia.
