Philip Berger, Jr. is an American attorney and jurist, currently serving as an Associate Judge on the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Judge Berger was elected to a seat on the Court of Appeals in 2016, defeating incumbent Judge Linda Stephens.
Philip Berger, Jr. formerly served as district attorney in Rockingham County, North Carolina and as an administrative law judge. He was an unsuccessful candidate for Congress in 2014.
Prior to the 2016 election in which Judge Berger won his seat on the Court of Appeals, the North Carolina General Assembly passed new legislation ensuing that Phil Berger's name would appear first on the ballot. Critics claim that this move by the General Assembly was made in an attempt to help Berger; Berger's father is Phil Berger, the President Pro Tempore of the North Carolina Senate.
