Biography
Paul Augustin Aizpiri (14 May 1919 – 22 January 2016) was a French artist. Aizpiris art is largely influenced by expressionist and Cubist elements. The motives have often been vases and clown portraits , but he also has taken motifs from the more typical French, among other Mediterranean cities. His artwork is often characterized by a distinctive use of color, which makes his pictures easily recognizable. Aïzpiri is particularly highly valued in Japan, where he has his own museum.
Biography
- Aizpiri was born in 1919 in Paris, France and studied painting at L'Ecole des Beaux-Arts also in Paris.
- Aizpiri is drafted in World War II in 1939, but became a prisoner of the German army deserters.
- In 1946 Aizpiri obtained third place in the Jeune Pinture and in 1951 the National Award.
- Aizpiri died in Veurne in 1994.
Work of Aizpiri, including the Paris Museum of Fine Arts in France, Luhmann Museum, Albi Museum, Cass Instrument Museum, Hiaren museums, etc., have been collections in museums such as the Western around Belgium and the Netherlands.
