Biography

Patricia A. (Trish) Kaufmann of Lincoln, Delaware, is an expert on the postage stamps and postal history of the Confederate States of America (CSA), and has written hundreds of articles on the subject; she is known as a diligent researcher who brings postal history to life. She is also a speaker on the subject.

Collecting interests

Trish has been collecting and studying Confederate philately since she was in her teens. She was an active exhibitor in the 1970s and 80, winning up to the Grand and Reserve Grand level in national competition. Because of her expert knowledge of CSA philately, she has qualified as a philatelic expert witness in legal court cases. Philatelic activity

Trish is very active in philatelic circles. She is a life member of American Philatelic Society, Confederate Stamp Alliance, U.S. Philatelic Classics Society, and the American Philatelic Research Library, as well as a member of various collector and dealer philatelic organizations, such as the American Stamp Dealers Association, Collectors Club of New York, and Fellow of the Royal Philatelic Society London. In addition to being a specialized retailer of Confederate stamps and postal history and former auctioneer, Trish is a past president of the Confederate Stamp Alliance, the first woman to hold that office. Trish is also the first woman, and the youngest person, to be bestowed with the title “General” by the Confederate Stamp Alliance. She has served on the boards of numerous other philatelic organizations. She began her career in 1973 as a philatelic auctioneer in Washington, DC, and closed the auction house in 1989. Trish works regularly with the Scott Catalogue editors to maintain the Confederate sections of Volume I and the Scott Specialized Catalogue, and she has also been a researcher for the Smithsonian Institution National Postal Museum and served on the Council of Philatelists on the Research Committee for four years during the creation of the William H. Gross Gallery. Ms. Kaufmann has received countless awards and recognition, including the CSA Trophy (highest exhibiting award), August Dietz Award (three times) for research and writing, the CP Writer's Award, the Haydn Myer Award a record three times for service to the Confederate Stamp Alliance, President's Trophy, Trustees' Trophy, Robert A.
