Biography

Dr. Padamja Sharma  listen  (born 5 March 1962) is an Indian poet, writer, academician and a freelance journalist from Jodhpur Rajasthan. Dr. Sharma has received various awards for her work and writings in the field of literature which revolves around women and the economically disadvantaged strata of the society. Her writings have been published in nationally and internationally acclaimed journals, magazines, books, newspapers, poem and short stories; and have been broadcast for 25 years in All India Radio, Akashwani, Jodhpur. Since, 1999 Dr Sharma is also associated with Gandhi Shanti Pratishthan and is also called upon to serve as nominated member of “ Lok Adalat”.

Dr. Padamja Sharma has served as a lecturer at various colleges in the field of Hindi Literature, Journalism and Mass Communication . Presently she is free lance writer.

Early life

Born to Pt. Shri Shridhar Shastri and Smt. Rameshwari Devi in the little hamlet settlement of Birmi, Jhunjhunu where she completed her primary education and later moved to Mumbai, Maharastra for her higher studies at University of Bombay. Dr Sharma was bestowed with gold medal in the subject of M.A.(Hindi) in year 1983 . In year 1984, she was married to Dr. Nagendra Sharma (prominent neurosurgeon in jodhpur) and shifted to Jodhpur, Rajasthan where she completed her further studies M.A., M.Phil. in Hindi, journalism, and history and Phd's in Hindi literature and Journalism whereas also she was bestowed with gold medals in the field of “M.A. journalism and mass communication” .She started her career with AIR and Journalist with a daily news paper Jaltedeep.

Literary career

Padamja’s first poem ”tum na samajh paye” was published in the college magazine “Amrita” in 1979. Her first book was published in 1998 and was on criticism, reportage, and poetry. She has also written columns. Her work depicts the struggles and grindings of the downtrodden. She has written reportage on sex-workers, patients suffering from leprosy and AIDS and people selling blood for living. Her description of the downtrodden in her reportage has been described by Critic Revti Raman Sharma as something which makes them feel sorry for the people in those conditions. Writer Chitra mudgal comments that in her poems Padamja appears as the watchman of women's rights and freedom. Writer Suryabala observes that the magic of Padamja’s poem is spectacular.
