Biography
Pusarla Venkata Ramana is a former professional volleyball player and an employee of Indian Railways in Secunderabad. He was a member of the India men's national volleyball team. In the 1986 Asian Games, he was part of the team that won a bronze medal in volleyball . He was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2000 for his contribution to Indian volleyball.His younger daughter P. V. Sindhu has won gold medal in BWF World Championships 2019.
Ramana was born in Nirmal. In an interview with Radha Krishna on the Telugu television channel ABN Andhrajyothi, he said that his father died when he was five years old and that he grew up in Hyderabad with his siblings. He pursued graduation (equivalent to a bachelor's degree) in Vijayawada.His forefathers are from West Godavari district.
Family
Ramana's wife Vijaya has also been a national-level volleyball player. Like him, she is an employee of Indian Railways. Their younger daughter, Sindhu, is a badminton player who won a silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Their eldest daughter, Divya, is a doctor by profession and played netball at national level.
