Biography
Deshabandu Dr P. T. de Silva (also known as Primus Thilakaratne de Silva) (1929 - 2015) was one of the best known Senior Consultant Physicians in Sri Lanka.
Early life
He was educated at Nalanda College, Colombo.
Career
Dr P. T. de Silva was one of a small group of physicians who established the first Medical Intensive Care Units in the country. He was President of Ceylon College of Physicians in 1984. A very popular clinical teacher, he has a Gold Medal for Clinical Medicineawarded by the PGIM in his name. Dr de Silva was a pioneering member of the Board of Study in Medicine of the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine Colombo. He was also Chairman of the Board of Management of the PGIM in 1997-1998.
Research and inventions
Dr P. T. de Silva is also credited with developing a Phonocardiogram (with Dr Desmond Fernando).
Personal
His sons are Vidyajyothi Professor Janaka de Silva and Professor Asita de Silva.
