Owen Honors

Owen Honors is a retired United States Navy officer who gained widespread media attention in January 2011 when videos he had made in 2006 and 2007 were released to the public. He had served as the executive officer and commanding officer of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise.

The videos, called "XO Movie Night," were humorous skits that aired weekly on the ship's closed-circuit television. They included explicit language, anti-gay slurs, sexual innuendos, and scenes portraying masturbation and showering with female officers.

The release of the videos sparked widespread controversy and condemnation from the public, Navy officials, and advocacy groups. Many criticized Honors for his use of offensive language, derogatory portrayals, and the lack of professionalism shown in the videos.

As a result of the controversy, Honors was relieved of his command in January 2011. He was subsequently forced into retirement in September 2011, effectively ending his military career.

The incident raised questions about the Navy's command climate and the appropriateness of the humor used in video productions. It also highlighted the need for increased awareness and sensitivity towards issues of sexism, homophobia, and sexual harassment within the military.
