Biography
Otto Naumann is an American art historian, dealer, collector, and scholar, particularly renowned as a specialist in Dutch and Flemish art.
He is a scholar of Frans van Mieris the Elder, writing the authoritative work, Frans van Mieris the Elder, 2 vols. (Davaco, 1981), and leading an exhibition on the artist at the Mauritshuis in 2005. After having made a name for himself specializing in Dutch and Flemish art, he expanded the breadth of his trade in 2007 to include Italian, French, Spanish, and British works as well as 19th-century painting.
In July 2018, he was appointed Sotheby's Senior Vice President and Client Development Director in its Old Master Paintings Division. Naumann previously sold a collection of Dutch and Flemish paintings at Sotheby’s in 2007.
Education
Naumann received his Masters from Columbia University and his Ph.D. From Yale University. He taught briefly at the University of Delaware before pursuing his passion for collecting.
In June 2017, Naumann received an honorary degree from Queen's University, Ontario, Canada.
