Biography
Nisreen Elsaim (Arabic: نسرين الصائم) is a Sudanese youth climate activist and climate negotiator.
Personal life
Elsaim holds a bachelor's degree in physics and a master's degree in renewable energy technology from the University of Khartoum.
A month after the Sudanese civil war began in April 2023, Elsaim and her family fled Sudan for their safety.
Elsaim had a son in 2022.
Career
Elsaim has actively been involved in youth climate activism since 2012. Elsaim is president of the Sudan Youth for Climate Change and was an organizer of the 2019 UN Youth Climate Summit. She is the former Chair of the United Nations' first Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change from 2020 to 2022, organized by the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, after a nomination by the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance.
Awards
In June 2024, Elsaim was listed as a finalist for the Kofi Annan NextGen Democracy Prize, organized by the Kofi Annan Foundation and the Democracy and Culture Foundation.
