Nirmala Geethani Chandrasiri

Nirmala took up Chess after getting a Chess set as a gift on her Eight birthday. She joined the Visakha Vidyalaya (Colombo) Chess Club and played for Visakha from 2001 to 2008 & captained Visakha U18, U19 and Super Six Chess teams. She was 1st at U14 Western Province(WP) - 2003, 3rd at U16 WP-2005, Equal 1st  at  U18 WP -2006 and Equal 1st at  National Youth U18-2006. She emerged the World Amateur Women’s Chess Champion 2006 in Libya, gaining a WFM title and  has an ELO rating of 2053- highest among Sri Lanka women since 2007.
