Biography

Nila Tanzil (born in Jakarta, April 29, 1976) is a children's advocacy literacy in rural areas in eastern Indonesia. Nila Tanzil is the founder of Taman Bacaan Pelangi. Nila Tanzil holds a Masters degree (MA in European Communication Studies) from Universiteit van Amsterdam, The Netherlands and a Bachelor degree in International Relations from the Parahyangan Catholic University where she graduated as the "Best Graduate of The Year".

Taman Bacaan Pelangi

Taman Bacaan Pelangi is a non-profit organization focuses on establishing children's libraries in remote areas in Eastern Indonesia.

Nila initiated the first library of Taman Bacaan Pelangi in Roe Village, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia in 2009. As of July 2017, she already builds 58 libraries across 15 islands in Eastern Indonesia, including islands in the provinces of East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, Papua and provides access to more than 105,300 children's books, and this number are still growing. She chooses the eastern part of Indonesia because it is underdeveloped areas in Indonesia. Furthermore, some children in eastern Indonesia are illiterate. As part of her concept to make Taman Bacaan Pelangi more sustainable, she founded Travel Sparks. Travel Sparks is a social enterprise focuses on travel that carries the spirit of "Travel With A Cause". In Travel Sparks, tourists can do voluntourism. In 2016, Nila published her first book called Lembar-Lembar Pelangi, a non-fiction book that tells her journey, exploring remote villages in Eastern Indonesia, building children's libraries in some of the country's most remote areas, and her challenges in answering the "call" and leaving her corporate career behind to focus on growing Taman Bacaan Pelangi and promoting literacy in the country .
