Biography
Nikos Nikiforakis (born 1978) is a Greek-Australian economist and professor of economics at New York University, Abu Dhabi. His research interests are predominantly in behavioral and public economics. His main body of work consists of experimental studies in the lab and the field investigating factors that impact on the evolution of cooperation.
Education
In 1997–2001, Nikiforakis attended Athens University of Economics and Business, Athens, Greece, and graduated with BCom in Business Organization and Administration. He then enrolled with Royal Holloway, University of London, from where he obtained his M.Sc. in Financial and Industrial Economics and Ph.D. in Economics in 2003 and 2006, respectively.
Career
After finishing his education, Nikiforakis was a Research Fellow in the Economics Department at the University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia (2006-2008). In 2008-2010, he was a lecturer there. In 2009-2010, he was a Visiting Professor, Dept. Economics, University of Athens, Greece, and in 2010-2011, a Senior Lecturer at University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia.
Since 2014, Nikiforakis is an economics professor at New York University, Abu Dhabi.
His work has been published in leading economic journals such as the American Economic Review, Journal of Public Economics, European Economic Review, and Games and Economic Behavior, as well as in leading interdisciplinary journals such as the Nature Communications, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
