Biography
Kristinn Nicolai (born 1964) is an Icelandic Postwar & Contemporary artist. He currently lives and works in Beijing, Paris, Madrid and Reykjavik.
Early life and education
Nicolai was born in 1964, in Reykjavik, Iceland. He studied fine arts at an early age at the studio of his uncle, the painter Oddur Steinthórsson.
Career
Nicola's artwork is characterized by a black void, as well as by a sacrilegious and sacrificial eroticism. His symbolic conceptualism transmits a poetic vision of nature and its eternal laws. His artwork subjects range from Post-War to Impressionist & Modern to Asian, Russian and Indigenous Art.
He ran his first exhibition title “Hommage à Mishima,” in 1980 at a gallery in Paris, France. From that point on, his artwork has featured in several exhibitions at well-known galleries and museums, including the Galeria Miguel Marcos. His first artwork to be offered at auction was in 2017 at La porte du paradis at Cornette de Saint Cyr Paris.
