Nicholas Jacob Pritzker (July 19, 1871—February 9, 1957) was a Ukrainian-born American pharmacist and a lawyer.
Life, education, career
Nicholas Pritzker was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, on July 19, 1871, to Jacob Nicholas Pritzker (1831–1896) and Sophia Pritzker (1838–1924). He had three siblings—Mary Pritzker Schoenbrod (1856–1933), Abraham N. Pritzker (1860–1883), and Bessie Pritzker Regent (1871–1954).
In 1881, his family emigrated to the United States, settling in Chicago, Illinois.
Pritzker started his career as a bookkeeper at Nelson Morris & Co., one of the big meat-packing companies in Chicago. He then worked as a pharmacist for a few years and then received his LL.B. degree from the University of Illinois College of Law in Champaign, Illinois.
After completing his education, Pritzker formed his law firm, Pritzker & Pritzker, where his three sons—Abram, Harry, and Jack—also worked. Harry specialized in criminal law, Abram specialized in business law, and Jack in real estate law.
Personal life
Pritzker married Anna Cohen on March 4, 1891. They had three sons—Abram Nicholas Pritzker, Harry Nicholas Pritzker, and Jack Nicholas Pritzker.
Death
Pritzker died in Chicago, Illinois, on February 9, 1957, at age 85.
