Biography

Niccolò Berrettoni (1637–1682) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period. He trained with Simone Cantarini then worked with Carlo Maratta. Among his paintings in Rome was a Madonna with St. Francis and others in Santa Maria di Montesanto; a Marriage of the Virgin for the main altar of San Lorenzo in Borgo, engraved by Pier Santi Bartoli; and a Holy Family for Santa Maria in Monte Santo, engraved by Frezza. Berrettoni was born at Montefeltro near Macerata. He joined the Academy in that city in 1675.
