Biography

Nenad Peruničić(Cyrillic: Ненад Перуничић; 1 May 1971) is a Serbian retired handball player.

Career

Nenad Peruničić began his career at RK Jugović. He received his first professional contract with RK Red Star Belgrade. In 1993 he moved to PSG Handball, and one year later to Spanish Liga ASOBAL club Irún Bidasoa. In 1995 he made his international breakthrough, winning the EHF Champions League and was voted the best player in the Liga ASOBAL. Here he also got his nickname "El Conquistador" ("The Conqueror") and "Terminator" by the Serbian TV reporter Srđan Knežević. He also won the Copa del Rey in 1996 and the EHF Cup Winner's Cup in 1997. Then he moved back to the German Bundesliga for THW Kiel and in 1998, 1999 and 2000 won league and cup as well as the 1997–98 EHF Cup won. In 2000 he played again in the final of the EHF Champions League and was defeated there by the FC Barcelona. In 2001 he moved to league rivals SC Magdeburg. With the same club he won EHF Champions League in 2002 as well as the EHF Club Championship. In 2004, he played nine months for the SG Wallau mass home, then he had a three-month interlude at al-Ahli SC in Qatar. Finally, Peruničić played a season for SC Pick Szeged in Hungary, where he won the Hungarian Cup. In the 2006-07 season he played - as a 36-year-old - at FC Barcelona, where he again won Copa del Rey de Balonmano. For fitness reasons, he was only used in offense. In the summer of 2007, his contract was not renewed at Barcelona, so he joined club Algeciras BM, where he played until November 2007. In the 2008-09 season, he ran for the Montenegrin club MRK Budućnost Podgorica on, then he ended his career. In 2015, Peruničić returned to action to help his former team RK Red Star Belgrade remain in top tier Serbian Handball Superleague.

Nenad Peruničić has 141 caps for the Serbian-Montenegrin and Yugoslav national team contested. With the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, he won bronze medal in the European Handball Championship 1996 in Spain and bronze in the Handball World Championship for Men in 1999 in Egypt. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he finished fourth with Serbia-Montenegro. Since 2002 Oleg Kuleshov and Grzegorz Tkaczyk already played two foreigners at the SC Magdeburg, Peruničić obtained the German citizenship in October 2002 in order to be considered as domestic player; However, he was never called in by national coach Heiner Brand to the DHB selection.

After his playing career, he took charge as a manager of Serbian handball club RK Red Star Belgrade. In 2018 he became the manager of Serbia national handball team for the 2019 World Championship in Denmark and Germany.
