Biography
Naren Kulung (नरेन कुलुङ, Born: 1983) is singer, composer, lyricist, social activist of Nepal based in Sydney. He got public attention after releasing his 3rd album Ani in 2003. His songs Mutubhari maya bokera, Jati tadha tadhidaichhu, Bariko tallo, Maitiko nauma, Aganai bhari, Phapacha papacha were quite popular and broadcast by Radio Nepal, Kantipur FM, Saptakoshi FM, Nepal Television, Image Channel, Kantipur Television and Guras FM. Mutubhari maya bokera became the most requested song in Guras FM in 2010.
Childhood
He spent most of his childhood in Shiva village at Tamku, where he was raised along with two sisters and one younger brother. He went to local school called Sagarmatha Secondary School which was located one hour walk from his home. He was involved with Baal Chetana Samuha supported by UNICEF along with others which used to organise campaigns and events for child rights all over the schools of Sankhuwasabha district. He used to take part in singing, acting, dancing and training for child rights in those events. He along with his friends co-founded a local organisation called Baal Ghathan in 1996, which advocated for the domestic violence against children and gender equality in education among them. He moved to Kathmandu in 1999 to compete in national level children singing competition called Rastriya Balgeet Pratiyogita. He became second in the competition.
Education
He completed SLC in 2001 from Sagarmatha Secondary School, Tamku. Then he studied intermediate in arts at Ratna Rajya (R.R.) campus, Kathmandu in 2004. He joined Kalanidhi Indira Sangeet Mahabidhalaya (affiliated to University of Allahabad) in 2002 to study classical vocal. He finished B.Music (Bachelor in Music) in 2007. He continued to study M.Muse (Master in Music) but had to left before its completion and moved to Australia.
Career
He worked as a volunteer for Baal Chetana Samuha in Kathmandu in 2000. He also taught singing to students at Sumnina Culture Academy at Lalitpur, Child Watawaran Center Nepal (CWCN) at Dhumbarahi, Sangeet Sadhana Kala Kendra at Dillibazar. He also worked as child care taker at CWCN where he had to execute family findout campaign and also coordinated various cultural programs. He and his friends established visual library at Sagarmatha Secondary School in 2007. He also coordinated awareness program in 5 V.D.C about climate change and its consequences to the environment with the help of various musical shows and dramas. He released 3 solo albums and 4 collection albums. He has composed music in one feature film called Telpos.
