Biography
Nancy Kaszak is an attorney and former Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives. She was born September 21, 1950 in Chicago Heights, Illinois. She attended Elmhurst College, Roosevelt University and Northern Illinois University College of Law.
She first became involved in politics in high school volunteering in Abner Mikva's first race for Congress.
In 1987, she was named a Fellow of Leadership Greater Chicago. From 1987-1992, Nancy served as General Attorney of the Chicago Park District.
In 1992, she ousted incumbent Alfred Ronan with the backing of Richard Mell. Her legislative committee assignments were the following: Committees on Constitutional Officers, Elections & State Government; Environment & Energy; Financial Institutions; Judiciary I.In 1993, she received Outstanding Freshman Legislator awards from the Illinois Hospital Association and the Illinois Health Care Association.
In 1996, she vacated her seat to run for the Democratic nomination in Illinois's 5th congressional district losing to future Governor of Illinois and fellow State Representative Rod Blagojevich. She ran for the seat again in 2002, this time losing to Rahm Emanuel. She endorsed Gery Chico in the 2011 mayoral election.
From 2005-2008, Nancy served on the Board of Rush North Shore Medical Center. From 2009-2011, she was a consultant to the Institute of Government and Public Affairs at the University of Illinois where she studied telehealth programs around the country to enable the University to become more of a leader in telehealth. From 2011-2012, she was Senior Analyst at the Center for Telehealth at the University of Illinois. In 2012, Nancy was named a Fellow of the Institute of Medicine of Chicago. In 2013, she was a telehealth consultant to the Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council. In 2014, Nancy chaired the Illinois Governor's Telehealth Workgroup. In 2015, she became Director of the Illinois Telehealth Initiative of the Partnership for a Connected Illinois. The Initiative organizes annual Telehealth Law Forums and helps launch demonstration projects in telehealth.
