Biography
Muhammad Azmat Ullah Shah was a Sufi spiritual leader and an officer in the Pakistani Army. He was a follower of Mohammad Naqeeb Ullah, and later a leader of the Naqeebi spiritual chain.
Early life
Muhammad Azmat Ullah Shah was born in about 1942. He served in the Pakistani Army, achieving the rank of Colonel, and fought in the Soviet–Afghan War.
Religious career
Shah was an esteemed spiritual leader with millions of followers worldwide, and the leader of the Naqeebi spiritual chain, a Sufi order, and was Sajjada Nashin or hereditary trustee of Naqeed Abad near Kasur, Pakistan by 2005. He was opposed to drug trafficking, international terrorism, al-Qaeda, and the presence of the United States in Afghanistan. In 2012, he announced his support for Imran Khan. He was influenced by Aristotelian philosophy.
In 2004 he visited Wales where he was honored at Cardiff's City Hall. He was also a member of Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust.
Death and legacy
Azmat Ullah Shah died in Britain on September 26, 2016 of kidney disease after a brief illness. He was buried at Astana-e-Aliya Naqeeb Abad, Kasur. His funeral service was attended by a large number of people, including Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan. He was buried next to his father Faqeer Naqeeb Ullah Shah.
Currently, the order is led by Sajada Nasheen Pir Naqeeb Ur Rehman Naqeebi sb and Pir Asadullah Shah Naqeebi.
