Biography

Miroslav Aleksić (Serbian Cyrillic: Мирослав Алексић; born 1978) is a Serbian politician. He is the founder and leader of the People's Movement of Serbia and has served as its sole member in the National Assembly of Serbia since 2016.

Early life and career

Aleksić was born in Kruševac, Serbia, then part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. He trained as an economist and was a successful public sector manager in Trstenik from 2008 to 2012. He was elected as mayor of Trstenik in 2012 as a candidate of the United Regions of Serbia party; following this party's dissolution, he founded the People's Movement of Serbia.

Parliamentary career

Aleksić was elected to the national assembly in the 2016 parliamentary election as part of the Alliance for a Better Serbia list led by Boris Tadić and Čedomir Jovanović. He received the eighth position on the electoral list and was declared elected when the alliance won thirteen mandates.

The People's Movement of Serbia exists in a parliamentary alliance with the Social Democratic Party, and Aleksić serves as the group's deputy leader. As of January 2017, he is a member of the parliamentary committee on agriculture, forestry, and water management; a deputy member of the committees on Kosovo-Metohija and the rights of the child; and a member of the friendship groups for Belarus, China, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Switzerland, and the United States of America.
