Biography
Michael Asmara (s. 17. kesäkuuta 1956 Jakarta) on indonesialainen säveltäjä. Hän on säveltänyt näyttämö-, orkesteri-, kamari-, vokaali-, piano- ja multimediateoksia, joita on esitetty Indonesiassa, Saksassa, Japanissa, Alankomaissa, Uudessa-Seelannissa, Singaporessa, Thaimaassa ja Vietnamissa. Asmara on saanut tilauksia muiden muassa saksalaiselta Ensemble Omegalta sekä pianisteilta Nadya Janitra ja Kees Wieringa.
Asmara on käyttänyt teoksissaan usein indonesialaisia perinnesoittimia.
Asmara perusti vuonna 2003 Yogyakartan nykymusiikkifestivaalin. Hän on vieraillut luennoitsijana Ōsakan yliopistossa ja säveltäjien workshopissa Uudessa-Seelannissa 2003.

Michael Asmara is Indonesian composer. He has written extensively for
western instruments and Javanese gamelan, often combining the two. His
compositions encompass stage, orchestral, choral and vocal works, piano and multimedia performances has been presented around the worlds. He founded and has served as director
of the Yogyakarta Contemporary Music Festival since 2003, recently in 2019 has
been awarded Rockefeller Bellagio Residency Fellow.
