Biography

Matthew Jebediah Shribman, MChem Oxon (born 15 June 1989) is an Irish–British entrepreneur, science communicator and musician. He is best known for presenting the online series Science In The Bath, and for his music under the stage name Ash Lad.

Shribman's science communication work has seen him collaborate with TED Talks, Pint of Science and the Plastic Oceans Foundation.

Shribman's music has been featured in The Sunday Times' Hottest Tracks, and has been supported by BBC Radio 1, Clash, Radio X and 6Music. The Guardian newspaper recently labelled Shribman "one to watch". Shribman works with award-winning producer Brett Cox.

Early life

Shribman was born in Stoke-on-Trent, and grew up in Rushton Spencer, Cheshire. His father was an anaesthetist and clinical director of the district general hospital in Macclesfield. His mother worked as a nurse and a midwife. Shribman attended the King's School in Macclesfield from 1998 to 2007, where he was Deputy Head Boy.

Education

Shribman read chemistry at Magdalen College, Oxford, where he was an academic scholar (Demy-Fellow & Exhibitioner).

He earned a first-class Master's degree in 2011, following completion of his thesis entitled 'In Search of A Chemical Compass – Animal Migration in Magnetic Fields' under the supervision of Dr Christiane Timmel.Ÿ
