Matt Eskandari is an American film screenwriter and director. His films include Victim, Game of Assassins, and the forthcoming movie The Deep End.
Career
Matt Eskandari attended film school at USC, where he was awarded the Best Student Horror Short award from the Screamfest Horror Film Festival for his film The Taking. Following film school, he directed and produced the television pilot for the series Upstart TV. In 2010 Eskandari’s directorial debut was released by IFC Films, entitled Victim, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. The film received a limited theatrical release, and was placed on IFC Midnight’s Pay-per-view channel.
In 2013 Eskandari directed and produced his film titled The Gauntlet. It debuted that October at the Screamfest film festival, and in 2014 the film was renamed Game of Assassins. The film received distribution from Lionsgate Home Entertainment following a screening at Cannes. Filmed in Beijing, China, the movie “follows five strangers who awake in an underground, medieval dungeon.” For the film, Eskandari received the Best Director award from the Asians On Film Festival. Game of Assassins was released on DVD on September 23, 2014.
In 2016, Eskandari began filming a new film he wrote entitled The Deep End. The film’s cast include Tobin Bell, Nora-Jayne Noone, and Alexandra Park.
