Biography

Martin C. Hobart (1835–1919) was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly.

Biography

Hobart was born on August 1, 1835, in Niagara County, New York. He moved to Fountain Prairie, Wisconsin, in 1852 and made a living as a farmer.

Military career

During the American Civil War, Hobart enlisted with the 7th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment of the Union Army. He was later wounded during the Second Battle of Bull Run.

Afterwards, he participated in the Battle of Chancellorsville, the Second Battle of Rappahannock Station, the Battle of Mine Run and the Battle of Gettysburg before being taken prisoner during the Battle of the Wilderness. Hobart was eventually released and he would later leave the Army with the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Political career

Hobart was a member of the Assembly during the 1885 session. Additionally, he was a member of the Columbia County, Wisconsin board. He was a Republican.

Hobart did at the age of 83 in Columbia County, on March 20, 1919.
