Biography

Mark Imgrund is an editor working in broadcast and digital content. He specializes in impactful storytelling, creative direction and content strategy for innovative brands and social entrepreneurs. His main areas are comedy, dialogue, visual effects, documentary, and uses Final Cut Pro, Avid and Premiere.

Education

An American University graduate with a B.A. in Film and Video, Imgrund edits longform projects in addition to his spot work. While enrolled in American University's Visual Media program, he studied photography and experimental film. He also attended the School of Visual Arts in New York as well as Ohio University and the University of London.

Early work

After working in New York as a stop-motion animation assistant on commercials and music videos that included Peter Gabriel's "Big Time", Imgrund moved into editing, assisting on music videos that included "Dirty Blvd." for Lou Reed, the Harris Savides directed video "Vertigo" for Matthew Sweet, as well as videos for New Order, Keith Richards, and R.E.M..

He was later hired by Dennis Hayes & Associates to assist editors Barry Stilwell, Michael Saia and Lin Polito on commercials, including many directed by Leslie Dektor and Jeff Preiss. D H & A was one of the first groups of editors to beta-test the brand new Avid Media Composer upon its release. A move to the west coast in the 90's brought him to Spot Welders where he worked alongside editors Robert Duffy and Michael Heldman - assisting on a variety of music videos and commercials directed by among others, Mark Romanek, Samuel Bayer, Tarsem, Jean-Baptiste Mondino and Spike Jonze.

Recent history

Recently Imgrund's editing can be seen in commercials and new media content featuring comedy dialogue and documentary style storytelling. In September 2007, a multi-screen large format HD installation for Microsoft Living Mobile was installed in the American Airlines terminal at JFK International Airport. The project was edited by Imgrund for McCann Erickson/SF and was directed by the designers at Brand New School.

Awards

Imgrund has been awarded an Emmy Award, a Monitor Award, three Gold NY Addy Awards, a Best of Broadcast Addy Award, and an AICP award for his 2006 Nokia campaign which was screened at MOMA. His work also won a finalist placing with the London International Advertising Awards.

His music videos include work for Phranc, Jamiroquai, and the final track recorded by the original line-up of the Smashing Pumpkins titled "Untitled". Longform work includes a trailer for the feature "Spring Forward" directed by Tom Gilroy, produced by Jim McKay and Michael Stipe & starring Liev Schreiber and Ned Beatty; documentary shorts for the Smashing Pumpkins, EPK's for Lenny Kravitz and John Hiatt; a live concert for Beck; on stage-projected tour visuals for Paul Oakenfold w/ Perry Farrell and Grant-Lee Phillips, corporate projects for Microsoft and Toyota, as well as the main title sequence for the feature film "Mona Lisa Smile".

Commercial credits include: Microsoft, Target, Hyundai, US Cellular, BMW, Quiksilver/Roxy, Nokia, Bank of America, Xbox, Honda, Citibank, Samsung, Commit, New Balance, Ford, Energizer, SBC, Microsoft, DirecTV, Sony, and Merrill Lynch.
