Mario Vrančić (born 23 May 1989) is a Bosnian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for German club SV Darmstadt 98 and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.
Club career
Vrančić started his professional career at 1. FSV Mainz 05.
On 26 June 2009, was loaned out for one season to Rot Weiss Ahlen.
After his return to Mainz, he was relegated to the reserves, and six months later, he left the club to join Borussia Dortmund II.
On 1 July 2012 he joined SC Paderborn 07 for whom he played for in the 2. Bundesliga and Bundesliga until the end of the 2014–15 season.
On 24 June 2015, he signed for newly promoted side SV Darmstadt 98.
International career
Vrančić has represented Germany at under-17, under-19 and under-20 level. He won 2008 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship with Germany.
In 2015, Vrančić received a green light from FIFA to play for Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team. In August 2015, Vrančić was called up by Mehmed Baždarević.
He made his debut for the Bosnian national team on September 6 against Andorra. Bosnia and Herzegovina won the game 3–0 after goals from Ermin Bičakčić, Edin Džeko and Senad Lulić.
Personal life
Mario has an older brother, Damir Vrančić, who is also a footballer. He also holds German citizenship.
