Biography

Manfred Kaiser (born January 7, 1929) is a German former footballer.
Another great playmaker from East Germany who played for Wismut Gera and FC Karl Marx Stadt. Manfred Kaiser played as a central midfielder but started his career as a striker. His strengths were his speed, his stamina, his technique and his long passes.
Starting his career at Gera he moved to Aue in 1955. There he played together with other great players like Bingfried Müller, the brothers Siegfried and Karl Wolf and the young Dieter Erler. With Aue Kaiser won three championships during his career (1956, 1957 and 1959). In the national team he also played an important role although it seemed to be finished for him at the age of 30. Luckily for Kaiser Karoly Soos became coach of the national team in 1961 and Kaiser celebrated his comeback in the age of 32. He showed again brilliant skills and became East German footballer of the year in 1963. In 1965 Kaiser ended his career and became a coach but because of his political ideas (he didn’t support the SED, the governing party of East Germany) he wasn’t allowed to coach a club in the first East German league.
