Biography
Lorena Braga Gomes Simpson (born May 3, 1987), is a Brazilian singer-songwriter and dancer. She became famous in Brazil for the hits "Can't Stop Loving You" and"Brand New Day". Simpson is a pioneer in Brazil, bringing performances to an international standard level using dancers and live singing. She proved to the industry that it could be possible to innovate and create something different for her fans. She inspired many Brazilian artists of the new generation. Her music has been played all over the world and she is recognized as the "Brazilian diva" in the electronic music scene.
She specializes in house music and EDM.
Career
Simpson was born in Manaus, the capital of Amazonas. She has Irish descent from her father. From a young age she always dreamed of working with music and dance. Though she had difficulties imposed by the locality and not coming from a family of artists, she continued fighting for her goals. When she turned 11, she left her hometown for improvement in the dancing arts. Since then she traveled with several dance companies, participating in festivals throughout Brazil as a dancer. At the age of 16 she began working as a choreographer for the dance groups in which she participated. In 2004 she joined Kelly Key's dancing group in her tour, in which she remained for three years.
Although focused solely on a dancing career, Simpson has always shown a talent for music. Influenced by friends, she began singing in nightclubs informally with backing vocals.
In 2008 she met the producer Ian Duarte and Fabian Almeida, members of the record label Maxpop Music, and signed with the label. On August 10, 2008, Simpson released her first single, entitled "Feel Da Funk", which reached the twenty-sixth position on the Brazilian Hot Dance Club Play.
The fulfillment of a partnership with DJ and Producer Filipe Guerra in the song "Can’t Stop Loving You" in 2009, was a huge hit responsible for the Brazilian singer's success throughout Brazil and some other countries in the electronic music scene, making Lorena Simpsona national icon in house music. In 2010, Simpson was named Ambassadress of Sexual Diversity in Mexico, staying at the top five most played in the country with her hits. On July 25, she began international "Dreams Tour", which passed throughout Brazil and countries including Mexico and Panama.
