Biography
Litesa Wallace (born 1977/78) is a Democratic former member of the Illinois House of Representatives. She represented the Rockford-based 67th district since her appointment in July 2014 to replace the outgoing State Representative Chuck Jefferson until her term ended in January 2019 after running as a candidate for Illinois Lieutenant Governor in 2018. Wallace was the first Black woman to represent the Rockford area in the State Capitol.[1]
Wallace ran for Lieutenant Governor of Illinois in the Democratic primary alongside State Senator Daniel Biss, replacing Biss's initial pick Chicago alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa. In a video announcing the joint ticket, Wallace commented that she and Biss had both "fought for childcare assistance, a $15 minimum wage, to expand healthcare, and to make millionaires pay their fair share." Biss and Wallace lost the Democratic primary to J. B. Pritzker and his running mate Julianna Stratton.
Delta Sigma Theta
In 2015, Representative Wallace sponsored HR0329, which recommended the creation of Delta Day. The synopsis of the bill, which was adopted, reads: "Commends the efforts of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., for its continued commitment to public service, recognizes its collective contributions in helping to make the State of Illinois a better place to live, work, and play, and designates April 29, 2015 as Delta Day at the Illinois State Capitol."
