Lindsey LaPointe
Quick Facts
Biography
Lindsey LaPointe is a Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives for the 19th district. The district, located in the Chicagoland area, includes parts of Elmwood Park, Harwood Heights, Norridge, and River Grove and includes parts of the Chicago neighborhoods of Dunning, Forest Glen, Jefferson Park, Norwood Park, O'Hare, and Portage Park.
LaPointe was appointed on July 24, 2019 to replace outgoing representative Robert Martwick as a result of his appointment as state senator to the 10th district to replace outgoing senator John Mulroe. She received the appointment after several members of the committee tasked with selecting the representative agreed to support whoever received the backing of former alderman of Chicago's 45th Ward John Arena, who had 44 percent of the weighted vote on the committee. The committeeman for the 41st Ward, Timothy Heneghan, described the appointment process as a "back room deal" in which Martwick agreed to help Arena or his chosen candidate become representative in exchange for getting the senate appointment.
Prior to her appointment, LaPointe was a project manager of justice reform at Business and Professional People for the Public Interest (BPI), a former program manager of Adult Redeploy Illinois at the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority, and has a background in social work. She also served as vice president of John Arena’s 45th Ward Independent Democrats organization.
