Biography
Leon van den Eijkel (born 1940) is a Dutch-born New Zealand artist who studied at The Hague's Royal Academy of Art from 1958 to 1963. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1986. van den Eijkel has exhibited widely in Europe, the United States, and New Zealand, and is represented in many major public and private collections. Notable artworks include the artwork Red Cloud Confrontation in Landscape (1996), at Gibbs Farm, near Auckland; Urban Forest (2007), a sculpture on Wellington's Meridian Energy Wind Sculpture walk; and The Smiling Windmills (2008), installed in Lower Hutt's Avalon Park.
