Lawrence Wong (actor)

Lawrence Wong (Chinese: 王冠逸; pinyin: Wáng Gùanyì) is a Malaysian-Singaporean actor. He is best known for his works in Story of Yanxi Palace (2018). After the television series, Wong was ranked 35th in the list of most influential artistes in China in 2018.

Wong has starred in many hit dramas like Three Wishes, 118, The Dream Job and Zero Calling however, only playing minor roles.

He first created waves back in 2009 with his role in The Promise, a Channel U telemovie where he played a rebellious teen who falls in love with an intellectually-disabled girl played by Julie Tan. The show was a hit and Lawrence, who is effectively bilingual, was nominated for "Favourite Male Character" at the Star Awards 2010.

Wong made the decision to leave Malaysia and Singapore for China in 2016 to expand his career. In 2016, he signed on with a Chinese management company run by Chinese actress Qin Lan. Within a month, he got his first acting role in Love And Passion, a remake of the 1982 TVB classic starring Liza Wang.

His popularity escalated when he was casted in the hit period drama, Story of Yanxi Palace aired in 2018. The Singaporean charmed viewers with his role as Hai Lan Cha, and bagged 2 international awards in New York City.

After gaining prominence in China, and the passing of late actor Aloysius Pang, Wong was called in by Mediacorp to fill in the place for the latter in new Channel 8 drama, My One In A Million. This marks the first channel 8 lead role for Wong.
