Lara Somogyi

Lara Somogyi (born in Lihue, Hawaii) is an American classically trained harpist and graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London. She is known for her work in neoclassical, pop and film genres through her use of integrating fx pedals and electroacoustic harp.

In 2018, Somogyi was awarded as an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music, an award given to former students who have made a significant contribution to the music profession.

After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music in 2012, she began working with English producer Guy Chambers, recording harp on projects including Rufus Wainwright's album Out of the Game, and can be seen working with Chambers in the BBC documentary series “Secrets of a Pop Song”

This was followed by a pairing with loop & pedal fx companies such as Roland Corporation to help her further create new sounds and forge her own artistic identity for the harp.

In 2015, Lara was invited to Hans Zimmer’s [Bleeding Fingers] studio to improvise material to picture for the Blue Planet II score, which featured Radiohead. In 2016, she worked with neo-classical label Erased Tapes, where she recorded Ben Lukas Boysen’s album Spells, mastered by Nils Frahm, which later aired on BBC Radio 6 with Mary Anne Hobbs. Lara worked closely with Boysen to shape the sound of the harp, processing the instrument through layers of tape delays.

As an active live artist, Somogyi is called upon for her signature combination of electro-acoustic harp and FX pedals, as well as her improvisational skills and compositional arrangements. She recently performed live with artists such as Anderson .Paak, Camila Cabello, Josh Groban, Sarah Brightman, Lindsay Stirling, Evanescence, Bazzi (singer), H.E.R., Daniel Caesar, John Legend, Rob Simonsen.

Somogyi has also been active as a session musician in pop and film score genres. She has worked with artists such as Hans Zimmer, Kris Bowers, Anderson .Paak, Bazzi (singer), Melanie Martinez, Ben Lukas Boysen, Postmodern Jukebox, Haley Reinhart, Bonobo (musician).
