Biography
Kumarsen Samarth (Marathi: कुमारसेन समर्थ) belonged to a Marathi family. His inclination towards the Marathi language led him to direct some great Marathi/Hindi movies such as Nal Damyanti and Rupaye ki kahani (1948). His biggest success was a Marathi film titled Saibaba. He studied cinematography in Germany and came back to India. A distant relative, Rattan Bai, arranged a marriage for him with her beautiful daughter Shobhna Samarth, an aspiring actress. Shobhna initially did not want to meet him, but once she saw him, she was struck by his good looks and decided to marry him on the condition that he let her act in films. He agreed and they married. They had four children, including famous actresses Nutan and Tanuja. He and his wife even made some films together. After fourteen years of marriage, they separated amicably but never divorced. He died in his mid-70s.
