Klaus Korhonen (born in 1961), is a Finnish diplomat who has been the Finnish Ambassador to NATO since 2023.
Biography
Klaus Korhonen was born in 1961.
He graduated from the University of Helsinki in 1986, with a Masters of Social Sciences.
Korhonen joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland in 1987.
From 2009 to 2013, he was the ambassador to the Netherlands.
He has worked as an arms control ambassador and chairman of the International Arms Trade Treaty in August 2016.
Korhonen has been the head of the special mission since 1 June 2019.
While Korhonen was the head of the Finnish Special Mission, as Finland made the decision to join NATO, Korhonen personally delivered Finland's membership application signed by Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on 18 May 2022.
In 2023, he is part of the North Atlantic Council, as Finland officially joined NATO.
