Biography
Kiran Gandhi is an electronic music artist, drummer, singer and activist. She currently performs as the LA-based electronic music act Madame Gandhi. She is the former drummer for musical artist M.I.A.. Gandhi's music and activism focuses on female empowerment and Fourth-wave feminism. She has performed at music festivals such as Bonnaroo and SXSW. In 2015, she ran the London Marathon bleeding freely on her period as a symbolic act to combat menstrual stigma around the world, sparking a viral conversation about how menstrual health and hygiene is treated in various cultures.
Early life
Gandhi is the daughter of philanthropist Meera Gandhi and social entrepreneur Vikram Gandhi. Gandhi grew up between New York City and Bombay, India. In 2011, she received her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in mathematics, political science and women's studies, and in 2015, received her MBA from Harvard University. Between 2011-2013, she served as the first ever full-time digital analyst at Interscope Records in Santa Monica, CA, using her mathematics degree to analyze patterns in Spotify streaming data and other digital media.
