Biography
Khachatur Sukiasyan (Armenian: Խաչատուր Սուքիասյան), also known as Grzo (Գռզո), is a political and economic figure. He was three times elected Deputy of the National Assembly of Armenia, non-Party. He is one of the co-founders of the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen, member of the Board of Trustees of the Yerevan Engineering University. Khachatur Sukiasyan is the Founder of SIL Group.
Biography
Khachatur Sukiasyan was born in 1961 in Yerevan. He graduated from the Yerevan Engineering University in 1985, the Faculty of Informatics, with a qualification of hardware engineer. In course of study years he ran students’ construction squad and was simultaneously employed as a part-time locksmith in Sirius Factory, the leading factory of military-industrial complex of Armenia.
- 1985-1992 - after the graduation, he worked as a field head in Sirius Factory, and eventually as a director of the production. Later he was appointed the director of Van factory.
- 1992-1994 - was the head of the Economic Relations General Department in the RA Ministry of Industry, also an adviser to the Minister.
- 1994 - fully dedicated himself to the family business activity, enrolled in 1987, once cooperative activity was allowed in the Soviet Union.
- 1996 - all manufacturing, construction and service companies, belonging to the Sukiasyan family, were united under SIL Group, which was led by Khachatur Sukiasyan up to 2005. SIL Group has created about 8,000 jobs.
The controlling share package of ARMECONOMBANK OJSC belongs to the Sukiasyan family. The bank is esteemed as one of the leading banks of Armenia, the shareholder of which is the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (25 + 1percentage). Khachatur Sukiasyan is also the founder of inLOBBY GmbH, a company which runs inLOBBY online hotel booking platform.
Political Activity
- 1999 - he was elected a Deputy of the NA (National Assembly) of Armenia from electoral district N 12.
- 2003 - Deputy of the NA (National Assembly) of Armenia, electoral district N 15.
- 2007 - Deputy of the NA (National Assembly) of Armenia, electoral district N10.
In all three cases these districts embraced the centre of Yerevan.
Khachatur Sukiasyan was a member of NA Standing Committeeon Financial-Credit/Fiscal, Budgetary and Economic Affairs, and also participated in works of NA (National Assembly) Standing Committee on European Integration. In course of his parliamentary activity Khachatur Sukiasyan participated in the discussion and development of many economic laws and constituted about 600 legal offers. Legal initiatives and offers, which were put forth by him, were aimed at the development of entrepreneurship, free economic competitive relationships, and simplification of the tax system in the country. Legal initiatives: «About tax on income», «About tax on revenue», «On banks and banking», «On realization of trade place», «On simplified tax» etc.
- 2005 - he resigned from the post of SIL Group president, according to the amendments of the RA new constitution, which envisages no entrepreneurship on behalf of NA (National Assembly) Deputy of Armenia.
- 2008 - Khachatur Sukiasyan supported the candidacy of the first president of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrossyan, on upcoming presidential elections.
- 2008 starting from February 20 - the Armenian opposition at the head of the RA first president, Levon Ter-Petrossyan, organized rallies against the presidential election results. On March 1 the demonstrations have poured into mass violations. Khachatur Sukiasyan was deprived of his parliamentary immunity. A criminal case was launched against him, which was later closed.
- 2009 - Khachatur Sukiasyan resigned from his post of the Deputy of the National Assembly of Armenia.
- 2012 - Khachatur Sukiasyan nominated his candidacy in Armenian Parliamentarian Elections 2012, however the authorities did not register his candidacy.
