Keyu Jin

Keyu Jin (Chinese: 金刻羽) is a professor of Economics at the London School of Economics and a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, specialising in international macroeconomics and the Chinese economy. Jin is from Beijing, China, and received her B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. from Harvard University. Her research focuses on global trade imbalances, global asset prices and the economic puzzles associated with China's growth model. Jin has engaged broadly with economic challenges China faces, including government policy, growth sustainability, financial liberalisation, government reform and exchange rates. She has had experience working for many financial institutions like the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley. Jin also serves as a non-executive director to Richemont Group, is part of the working committee for China Banking Regulatory Commission on Fintech and sits on editorial board of the Review of Economic Studies. She is a columnist for Project Syndicate and Caixin Magazine, the main economics and finance magazine in China, and frequently contributes opinion pieces to media outlets including the Financial Times and the South China Morning Post.

Jin was born in Beijing, China. At the age of 14, Jin moved to New York to attend high school and later to Cambridge, Massachusetts to attend Harvard University, where she received her B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. Jin currently resides in London.

Jin received her B.A. in Economics from Harvard University in 2004, and was awarded the Allyn A. Young Prize in Economics for her thesis. She continued her studies for her M.A. and received her Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University in 2009. While at Harvard University, Jin earned the Harvard University GSAS Scholarship (2004-2006), the Harvard GSAS Dissertation Fellowship (2008-2009), the National Bureau of Economic Research Aging and Health Fellowship (2008-2009) and the Chiles Award (2008-2009). Her academic works have been published in top academic journals in Economics like the American Economic Review. Her research focuses on global imbalances and global asset prices, drivers of China's growth model, the impact of the one-child policy and the Chinese saving puzzle.

Between 2009 and 2016, she was an Assistant Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics,before becoming an Associate Professor. Jin was named Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2014 as part of a five-year programme that identifies 100 young leaders under the age of 40 annually who are finding innovative ways to tackle complex global challenges. In 2018, she was a speaker at the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, and participated in the panel "The Global Impact of America First" as well as a separate panel "The Remaking of Global Finance" joined by International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde and United States Secretary of the Treasury Steve Mnuchin. Jin was also a Visiting Professor at Yale University on the Cowles Fellowship from September to December 2012 as well as at UC Berkeley from January to May 2015.

Jin has advised and consulted for the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. She also has had experience at various financial institutions including Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley. She is a columnist for Project Syndicate and Caixin Magazine, and has contributed many opinion pieces to media outlets like the Financial Times and the South China Morning Post. Jin also serves as a non-executive director to Richemont Group, the world's second-largest luxury goods company. She worked with a working committee for China Banking Regulatory Commission on Fintech and previously sat on editorial board of the Review of Economic Studies. More recently, Jin has sought to help the next generation of fast-growing technology companies in China tap on Western capital, and is a general partner at Sky9 capital, a leading venture fund in China.

Jin is regularly featured in notable media outlets where she regularly writes about the Chinese economy and global finance. After President Trump's electoral victory, she has written widely about the consequences of his trade policies from the perspective of Chinese leadership and serves as an important bridge.
