Kevin Wendell Jones is an American award-winning filmmaker, composer, musician, sound designer, VFX generalist.
Early life
Kevin Wendell Jones was born on 1 July 1967 in Baltimore, Maryland.
Jones got his start in music at an early age; he started playing flute when he was 7 years old and by age 9, he transitioned to the piano. When he was 12, he enrolled with the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland, to study piano and music theory. He then attended Carver Vocational High School, Baltimore, Maryland, where he majored in Industrial Electronics, graduating in 1985.
Later, he also attended Cleveland Institute of Electronics, Cleveland, Ohio, from where he graduated with an Associate of Arts and Sciences degree in Electronic Engineering Technology.
Career
When he was 19, Jones joined the US Army for a career in communications; in the winter of 1987, he teamed up with fellow military members to form the showband group called Essence. Later that year, they won first place in the 1st Armored Division Showband Competition in Europe.
After honorably leaving the military service in 1989, he went into music production and formed Jones Productions, Inc. Within the next 4 years, he helped develop other artists who went on to go solo with promising careers.
He then dissolved his music production company to pursue a career in photography, for the next 10 years. He attended the school at New York Institute of Photography where he developed his skills in black and white, portraits, events, and nature. He was awarded Editors Choice Celebrated Photographer Award by the International Library of Photography.
In 2004, he returned to music and wrote and produced 2 albums; From Me, To You and Bringing Back The Funk. In 2012, he started writing music for a variety of film trailers and scores for indie films.
Over the years, he has worked in Sound Department in various capacities for a wide range of short videos including Dark Awakening (2015), The Journey of Tia (2016), Age of the Warrior (2017), Kevin Wendell Jones Feat. Shea Diamond: Seen It All (2019), and Hattie Lee's Redemption (2019).
As a filmmaker, he has produced Supergirl (Video short, 2011); The Interrogation (Short, 2016); The Defenders (Short, 2017); MVP: Mandalorians vs Predator (Short, 2018); and Kevin Wendell Jones: In the Moonlight (Short, 2019). For some of his works, he also provided the visual effects.
In 2015, he partnered with Tia Cherie Polite (of Black Rose Dagger Films) and worked as her cinematographer, composer, sound designer, and general VFX artist.
