Biography
Kevin Humphreys (born 4 February 1958) is an Irish former Labour Party politician who served as a Senator for the Administrative Panel from 2016 to 2020. He previously served as Minister of State for Employment, Community and Social Support from 2014 to 2016. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin South-East constituency from 2011 to 2016.
From Ringsend, he was a member of Dublin City Council from 1999 to 2011, representing the South East Inner City area.
On 15 July 2014, he was appointed as Minister of State with responsibility for Employment, Community and Social Support at the Department of Social Protection.
He lost his Dáil seat at the 2016 general election, but was subsequently elected to the Seanad.
After being politicised by campaigning against the 8th Amendment in 1983, Humphrey's first ran for election in 1999, becoming a councillor for the South East Inner City ward of Dublin City Council.
He was re-elected in 2004 and 2009, topping the poll both times. During this period, Humphrey's worked with then Lord Mayor, Andrew Montague to deliver the Dublin Bikes scheme.
He was an unsuccessful candidate for the Dublin Bay South constituency at the 2020 general election, receiving 7.88% of first-preference votes, coming in sixth in the four-seat constituency.
