Biography

Károly Frenreisz (born 8 November 1946, Budapest, Hungary) is a Hungarian rock singer and songwriter.

Life

Frenreisz first studied piano, and then learned to play the clarinet, saxophone, and bass. He was, from 1965 to 1971, part of the band to Metró. He was known in the band for the Citromízű banán. Played a significant role in getting the Metró through the end of the sixties, and being part of the era of modern musical trends of experimenting. In 1971, he was a founding member of Locomotiv GT, of which, until January 1973, was the bassist, brass, and lead singer. He wrote his first hits for Locomotiv GT (Boldog vagyok, Érints meg), and in connection with one of his song was the first international calling of the band. In 1973, he founded Skorpió, which is still active with some interruptions. He was the frontman and band leader of the band. He was the Double-bass player of the Year in 1974 and 1981. His half brother was actor Zoltán Latinovits (1931–1976) and his brother was actor István Bujtor (1942–2009), who is also an actor. His maternal grandfather was restaurateur Károly Gundel, and Gundel's father was János Gundel.

He was a judge on the 2016 edition of A Dal, the Hungarian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, and was also part of the Hungarian national jury for the jury voting. He will, again, be a judge on A Dal, this time for the 2017 edition.
