Biography
Kanchana Wijesekera (born 1982) is a Sri Lankan politician who was elected as a UPFA Member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka for Matara District in the 2015 parliamentary election.He is the son of former Cabinet Minister Mahinda Wijesekara.
His primary education was at Trinity College, Kandy where he was a student till the end of grade 6 and represented the school in Athletics, Swimming and Rugby. He was then educated at Royal College, Colombo where he completed the GCE O/L examination and represented the school in Cricket at under 15's and under 17. He sat for his A/L examinations at Asian International School in Colombo and represented the school in Cricket and Rugby at the senior level. Further studies were done at Monash University in Melbourne where he followed a Degree in Economics.
In 2008 he was elected as the youngest ever Basnayake Nilame in Sri Lanka for the sacred Sri Vishnu Dewalaya in Devinuwara. He was also elected as a member for the Southern Provincial Council in 2009 and served two terms from 2009 -2014 and 2014 to 2015 until he was elected in to Parliament in the 2015 General election.
He has also served as the chief organiser for the SLFP in the Devinuwara electorate from 2010 to 2014.
