Biography

Juan de Witte Hoos, O.P. or Juan de Ubite (1475 – 18 September 1540) was a Roman Catholic prelate who served as Bishop of Santiago de Cuba (1522–1525) and Bishop of Baracoa (1517–1522).

Biography

Juan de Witte Hoos was born in Brujas, Spain and ordained a priest in the Order of Preachers. On 15 May 1514, he was appointed during the papacy of Pope Leo X as Titular Bishop of Salymbria. On 11 February 1517, he was appointed during the papacy of Pope Leo X as Bishop of Baracoa. On 28 April 1522, he was appointed during the papacy of Pope Adrian VI as Bishop of Santiago de Cuba where he served until his resignation on 4 April 1525. He died on 18 September 1540.
