Joseph Thomas Bagnara (1929 - 2016) was a zoology professor at the University of Arizona.
Life, education, and career
Bagnara was born and raised in Rochester, New York. He attended the University of Rochester, earning B.A. Biology in 1952. He then received a Ph.D., Zoology, from the University of Iowa, in 1956. It was at the University of Iowa where Bagnara met Lou Schulze - the couple married in September 1955 in Iowa city.
Bagnara began his career as a zoology instructor at the University of Arizona. He became a professor at the University in 1964, until his retirement in 1992.
In 2001, he was awarded the “Order of the Sacred Treasure” from the government of Japan.
In 2013, Bagnara published his memoir Unfinished Business: A Biologist in the Latter Half of the 20th Century.
Bagnara died on 2 October 2016.
