Biography

José Ferreira Queimado (Olhalvo, 23 December 1913 – Lisbon, 23 December 2007) was the 25th president of S.L. Benfica.
At age 12 he became an Associate of S.L. Benfica, proposed by his brother Joaquim Ferreira Queimado, Jr., later becoming its associate for life nr. 261 and one of the Águias de Ouro (Eagles of Gold) of the club.
Queimado was elected to the Assembly of Representatives for 1958–1959 and presided to its Central Commission in 1965, and was then elected President of the Direction on two separate occasions, first on 16 June 1966, when he was also elected President of the Commission of Works of the New Games Park, and again on 23 June 1978, remaining there until 1980. Meanwhile, he was part of the Seat Commission from 1973 to 1977. During his second tenure as President started the construction of the Dr. Borges Coutinho Pavilion. For the services rendered to the club he was granted, on 2 April 1970, the rank of Merit Associate.
Queimado was also known as a business entrepreneur who promoted Portugal's tourism and cork industries.
He died in Lisbon on his 94th birthday on 23 December 2007 after a long illness.
