Biography
Jonathan Wrather (born 16 March 1969) is an English actor and editor. He is known for his soap opera roles in Coronation Street as Joe Carter from 2002 until 2003, and in Emmerdale as Pierce Harris from 2016 to onwards.
Early life
Wrather was born in Cheshire in North England. He attended Sedbergh School located in the Lake District in Cumbria, it was here that he became interested in drama. He developed a passion for theatre which was encouraged by his English teacher. He left school in 1987 to join the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain (NYT). He was accepted at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and left after completing a three-year acting course to pursue an acting career.
Career
Wrather began his professional acting career in 1992 with the Actors Touring Company in a production of Frank wedekind's Lulu adapted by Edward Bond. The production also played at the Lilian Bayliss Theatre in London. Wrather begun a theatre career playing classical and contemporary roles in touring productions and playing London venues including the West End. He began to be offered roles in television drama which helped him carve a career in TV, notably the television series Cracker, Clocking Off (UK TV series), Bob And Rose (UK TV series), Fat Friends (UK TV series), The Fugitives (UK TV series), Bones (US TV series), Waterloo Road (UK TV series), Silent Witness (UK TV series), Jo (US TV series), and Casualty (UK TV series). Wrather was a series regular in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street taking on the role of Joe Carter. He appeared in the show for 107 episodes.
In January 2016, it was confirmed that Wrather would be portraying the role of Pierce Harris in another ITV soap opera called Emmerdale, introduced as the husband of Tess Harris (Nicola Stephenson). On the day of his character's arrival, Tess was killed off of the soap. His role will be as a series regular.
